HSI V took place from May 11 - 14 in Dallas, Texas. The participants were Sheebz, Nick, and JJ. Everybody stayed at the Schieber house. Lacy and Molly Johnson came along for the fun as well as Lisa, Holly, and Wesley Schieber.

TUESDAY, MAY 10, 2005

Sheebz picked up Nick at the airport mid-afternoon.  They were discussing what would happen when JJ failed to show up to Sheebz house until after midnight since they were driving from Houston. Surprisingly, JJ rang the doorbell at around 5 p.m. His family wouldn't have to sleep in the car tonight. That evening we stayed at the Schieber house to BBQ bratwurst for dinner, had a few drinks and some cigars, and discussed our early morning tee time on Wednesday. The rules for HSI V would be the same as HSI IV.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 11, 2005

We had to leave Sheebz house at 6 a.m. in order to make the long drive to Tierra Verde Golf Club for our 7:30 a.m. tee time. This course was ranked as the #1 mid-priced course in Dallas by Avid Golfer magazine. It was a course with lots of wild grassy areas and wooded areas. Not extremely difficult, but by no means was it easy. We realized here that the entire week was going to be windy.

We finished the first round and stopped off at Wendy's for lunch on the way to our 1:00 p.m. tee time at Mansfield National Golf Club. This course was more wide open, which was made it a little difficult at times in the windy conditions.

After the second round we went back to Sheebz house and had crawfish fettuccini for dinner that Lacy brought from Houston.

THURSDAY, MAY 12, 2005

The first tee time today was at 8:00 a.m. at Bridlewood Golf Club. This course was rated in Avid Golfer as the #1 luxury course in D/FW. It lived up to the billing. It was a more traditional course with tree lined fairways and it winded through a neighborhood. The good course conditions combined with the relatively calm winds helped make this the lowest average score for the group for the week with an 86.33 average. Nick shot the weeks low round with an 84. Everybody shot their personal best for the week at this course.

After the round we went the Hooter's and had some wings for lunch. After the entertainment was over, we went to The Tribute Golf Links for our 2:52 p.m. tee time. Every hole at this course is "in tribute" to a famous golf hole in Scotland. This course was recently ranked in the top 100 public courses in the country by Golf Digest Magazine. This course is right on the east side of Lake Lewisville, so it was extremely windy. Luckily, the fairways were wide and the greens were big.

For dinner we brought home Pizza from Scalini's. There was a lot of beer involved.

FRIDAY, MAY 13, 2005

Only one round today at Buffalo Creek Golf Club. Our tee time was 9:07 a.m. All of the players were a little nervous on the first tee because through four rounds of HSI V the score was extremely close. First and third place was separated by six points, which had never happened before in an HSI. This course was a sprawling course through some neighborhoods and it started calm but the wind picked up. This was a pretty good course.

After the morning round, Sheebz conned JJ and Nick into helping him put a roof on Holly's swing set in Sheebz backyard. They were good help, and the thing was complete in a couple of hours. That evening we grilled burgers and had a few drinks.

SATURDAY, MAY 14, 2005

This was it. Our last round of golf was at 6:52 a.m. at Tenison Park Golf Course - Tenison Highlands. This is a course that Sheebz had played several times and is really close to their house. Again, things were tense at the start because the HSI score was so close. Heavy rains the night before forced the players to walk for the first time in HSI history. First and third place were separated by 8 points, so they were all a little nervous on the first tee.

All positions changed in the last round. JJ finished first after starting in second, Sheebz went from third to second, Nick went from first to third. Everybody was hoping for a close score at HSI V and they weren't disappointed. With three holes to play (out of 108 total), JJ had a four point lead over second place Sheebz, and there were seven points remaining on the board. JJ stepped up to win each of the last three holes to claim the HSI trophy for the first time.

After the round, we went to the Byron Nelson PGA tournament at TPC @ Las Colinas. JJ was pretty wired due to his recent win, and he was downing the beer as fast as somebody would hand them to him. We got to watch about three or four holes of various players, then we retired to the food/drink pavilion tent. It was a great end to a fun week.

That evening we went to Enchilada's restaurant and stuffed our faces with Mexican food. Nick, JJ, and Sheebz were crashed out on the living room floor by 8:30 p.m. - party animals. We were very tired.

SUNDAY, MAY 15, 2005

The trophy presentation was held today where Nick reluctantly gave up the HSI trophy to JJ. Johnson's headed back to Dallas and Sheebz delivered Nick to the airport. Another successful HSI came to a close.
