HSI IX Point Recap

SCORING SUMMARY

ROUND 1

Teams in Round 1 were Sheebz/Powell vs. Nick/JJ and the round was played at Keystone Ranch.  The weather definitely played a big part here, as we were delayed at one point for about 30 minutes due to fear of lightning and we were poured on for a good rest of the round.  The scoring started slowly for the first several holes.  The biggest move was on hole #8 when Sheebz made a rabbit/birdie to win the three point skin and score some extras as well.  On the back nine, it was more of the same.  Sheebz scored a greenie/birdie/rabbit on 12th hole to win the second of his and Powell's three consecutive skins, but then JJ and Nick won the next three.  After 18 holes, Sheebz/Powell had won ten skins while Nick/JJ had won eight.  The score was Sheebz - 29, Powell - 21, Nick - 19, JJ - 19.

ROUND 2

The second round matched Nick/Powell against Sheebz/JJ.  Nick and Powell came out charging, winning six of the first nine skins.  Nick and Powell had closed the gap on Sheebz, and the three of them were only two points apart.  On the back nine, Sheebz/JJ turned it around and they won six of the nine skins.  The biggest here was when JJ scored par on the 18th hole to put Sheebz back in the lead after round 2.  The score finished Sheebz - 47, Powell - 45, Nick - 42, JJ - 35.

ROUND 3

The final round of team play put Sheebz/Nick against JJ/Powell.  This round was dominated by Sheebz/Nick.  They won 14 of the 17 skins awarded on the day, with the 18th hole carrying over to the next day's singles round.  The key holes here was the 6th with three holes carried over into it.  Sheebz won that hole with a birdie/rabbit.  The other key hole was number 16, which also had three holes carried over into it.  This hole was also won by Sheebz with a birdie/rabbit.  At the end of team play, the score was Sheebz - 83, Nick - 74, Powell - 54, JJ - 43

ROUND 4

This was the first round of singles play.  The weather would also have an early impact on this round, with an ice delay to start the morning.  By the 6th hole, the weather was great.  When the round started, it looked like a two player race, with Nick needing to make an early move to close the gap on Sheebz.  He did just that, closing Sheebz nine point lead down to only two points by the end of the round.  JJ made a move on Powell on the first nine, but then Powell stepped it up on the back nine with a move of his own.  After three rounds, the score was Sheebz - 90, Nick - 88, Powell - 68, JJ - 59.

ROUND 5

When round five started it looked like there would be two races.  The first would be between Nick and Sheebz for the trophy.  The second would be between Powell and JJ to avoid the pink belt.  And then Powell came out on fire!!!  He won the first five skins and eight of the first ten skins.  Of the eight skins he won, one hole was worth four skins and another was worth three skins.  When the round started, Powell was behind Sheebz by 22 points.  After ten holes, he had closed that gap to only five points.  He was only three behind Nick.  At the same time, Nick and Sheebz went cold.  Sheebz had scored only one point on the first ten holes (-2 Woof, 3 rabbit) and Nick had also scored only one point (rabbit).  Sheebz, Powell, and Nick all had a shot with only eight holes to play.

Hole #11 was carried over with Nick and JJ scoring par. Hole #12 was carried over with Nick, Powell, and JJ all scoring bogey.  Hole #13 was a par 5 worth three skins.  Sheebz scored a par on a sandie/rabbit while Nick lost a point when he failed on his woof attempt.  It was a major swing in the scoring, with Sheebz taking a ten point lead over second place Nick with only 11 skin points remaining on the final five holes.  The 14th hole was carried over, and then Sheebz sealed the trophy with a par on the 15th hole.  After this hole he was thirteen points ahead of Nick with only eight skin points remaining on the board.  The round ended with JJ winning the final three holes.  Both Powell (rabbit) and Nick (woof) scored one point on the final hole, which meant Nick edged Powell by a single point.

Final Score:  Sheebz - 100, Nick - 90, Powell - 89, JJ - 77
