Sheebz was planning to bring his whole family to Houston for an extended weekend about a month before HSI VII. No reason to visit, we just hadn’t gotten together for a long time and thought it would be a fun time to get the kids together. Due to a scheduling problem, the Schieber family couldn’t attend. However, Sheebz still made the trip to Houston.
During the first round each player spent some time in all three positions. JJ took the lead with a par on nine, Sheebz grabbed it with a birdie on ten, Nick grabbed it back with a birdie on 16. The round ended with Nick in first (20 points), Sheebz in second (13) and JJ in third (11). It’s a good thing for the others that Clint wasn’t eligible because he would have cleaned up in the skins game. We ate lunch in the clubhouse and watched coverage of the NFL draft. I’m going to write this in here to see if this player ever amounts to anything. Brady Quinn, the QB from Notre Dame, was supposed to be picked in the top 10 but he didn’t get picked until #22 by the Cleveland Browns. We can look back on this at HSI XX and see if he ever amounted to anything. We teed off again to play the same eighteen holes. Nick separated himself from the pack during this round and pretty much sealed up the victory. JJ made a run towards the end of the round by winning the last three holes. The score ended up Nick – 45; Sheebz – 28; JJ – 24. That evening we went to dinner at San Lorenzo Mexican Restaurant. Guests for dinner were Lacy, Molly, and Lyndsey Johnson and Lacy’s brother, Logan. We had some good food and margaritas. After dinner JJ went to put the kids to bed while Nick and Sheebz went to find a place to shoot pool. We ended up at a place called Slick Willie’s Family Pool Hall. We played pool all night and JJ joined us after the kids were down for the night. Finally got out of there around 1 a.m., which was bad since we had a tee time at 8 a.m. the next morning at South Shore.
HSI VII is five weeks away and, although everybody showed moments of greatness this weekend, it is obvious that each player has some work to do on their games. Nick needs to perfect his putting. JJ hit the ball much more consistently, but still has the occasional wild shot off the tee. Sheebz struggled the most with mid-iron troubles, chipping problems, and he is still shanking regularly. We’ll see who can make some progress in the next five weeks Timber Creek Layout PICS
